THOMSON ANNOUNCES NEW CIO FOR VICTORIA
A former “CIO of the Year” is Victoria’s new Chief Information Officer (CIO)
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Marsha Thomson, said the appointment of Ms Jane Treadwell, who is currently Chief Information Officer of Centrelink, was a coup for Victoria and confirmed the Bracks Government's position as a leader in eGovernment.
Ms Thomson said Ms Treadwell would commence the CIO role on 3 May, 2005.
“As CIO, Jane Treadwell will be a great asset to the Bracks Government in helping to deliver on our e-government strategy,” Ms Thomson said.
“Jane Treadwell’s extensive experience in strategic management and organisational change, makes her an excellent choice to be Victoria’s Chief Information Officer.”
Ms Treadwell joined Centrelink in 1998 as its first CIO. Since that time Centrelink has become an international leader in e-government service delivery.
She was also responsible at Centrelink for ensuring the integrated development, transformation and support of Centrelink’s services, products and underlying capabilities in line with its business strategy and in collaboration with key external and internal stakeholders.
In October 2004, she was named the CIO of the year – Government at the ajb.publishing IT & T Awards, and in 2001 was one of 30 CIO’s around the world who were recognised by Gartner as the “new breed” of Information Officer.
Ms Thomson said the Office of the CIO was established by the Bracks Government to drive ICT policy and strategy within government and have whole-of-government responsibility for:
·
Innovative use of ICT to transform government service delivery
·
Investment in ICT to address the government's priority outcomes
·
Strategic planning for ICT deployment across government; and
·
Architecture planning and standardisation of corporate ICT infrastructure.
E-Government is more than simply offering on-line services, it is about being smarter in the way we use networks and new technology to enable Government to provide more effective and efficient services to Victorians," Minister Thomson said.
“The Bracks Government recognises the important role innovation and new technology has to play in providing better government to Victorians and in providing growth and economic success to Victoria,” she said.
