Our Leadership Role
The Department of Premier and Cabinet supports the Government through its four key roles, with a focus on achieving best practice in the triple bottom line approach that balances economic, social and environmental goals and accomplishments.
These roles are to:
- Support the Premier as head of Government and Cabinet
- Provide strategic policy leadership
- Develop whole-of-government initiatives
- Deliver services and programs in relation to Government Information and Communications and Arts Victoria.
Supporting the Premier as Head of Government
One of the most important functions of the Department is to provide support to the Premier, Minister, Cabinet and Governor-in-Council by attending to their administrative, parliamentary and governance responsibilities. For example, see:

Delivering Services and Programs
Service and program delivery comprises the fourth major arm of the Department. Varied and wide-ranging services are reflected by the policy priorities of the Government of the day and the diverse needs of the community. For example, see:
