Principal Privacy Officer: Helen Silver (Secretary) 9651 5072
Privacy Officer: Sarah Davey Moor 9651 5093

Advances in technology have brought considerable changes to our lives particularly in the way in which individuals communicate. Technology enables large volumes of information to be captured and disseminated with greater ease at rapid speed. Information that is captured could include personal information and unless adequate safeguards are built into the management of personal information all items of personal information captured could be disseminated widely and unintentionally.

The Information Privacy Act 2000 (IP Act) aims to increase public confidence in the Government’s ability to protect and manage the personal information that it collects and stores. It also promotes the free and appropriate exchange of information in our community. The IP Act came into effect on 1 September 2001 and contains a set of 10 information privacy principles (IPPs) which will be enforceable on 1 September 2002.

The Department has developed an Information Privacy Policy. The Department and its service providers are committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information. A copy of the Policy can be obtained by contacting the Privacy Officer on 9651 1280 or by writing to the Privacy Officer at:
