| Improving Mental Health Outcomes for Victorians: The Next Wave of Reform | |
| In February 2006, the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) identified mental health as an issue of national significance. A national mental health plan is expected to be considered by COAG at its meeting in July 2006. Mental health reform is being pursued in parallel with the broader National Reform Agenda (NRA), the overall aims of which are to improve workforce participation and productivity. | A Fairer Victoria - The Victorian Governments social policy action plan | |
| The Premier, the Hon Steve Bracks MP, and the Deputy Premier, the Hon John Thwaites MP, launched A Fairer Victoria on 28 April 2005. A Fairer Victoria is the Victorian Government’s social policy action plan. The plan sets out 85 actions the Government will take within fourteen major strategies to address disadvantage in Victoria. |

| Quality Time – Regulating for quality in early childhood education and care in Victoria | |
| The Department of Premier and Cabinet, in partnership with the Department of Human Services, commissioned a study of the regulatory system for early childhood education and care (kindergarten and child care) services in Victoria. The report, prepared by the Allen Consulting Group, describes Victoria’s early childhood education and care industry, analyses current regulatory arrangements, and provides recommendations to strengthen the industry’s current regulatory and quality assurance systems to improve outcomes for Victoria’s children. |

| Victoria shares the Commonwealth’s desire to undertake a reform process which will lead swiftly to healthy rivers and the sustainable use of water resources in the Basin. As outlined in A Comprehensive and Balanced National Water Reform Plan, Victoria believes that this objective can be best achieved through a comprehensive and balanced approach which overhauls the Basin’s outdated governance and investment structures, and also protects the interests of farmers, regional communities and the environment. |

| Melbourne Airport emergency response review | |
| On 21 February 2005, State and Commonwealth emergency services were involved in a multi agency response to an incident at Melbourne Airport, which resulted in the evacuation and closure of the southern terminal. | The Bracks Government came to office committed to restoring and safeguarding democracy in Victoria. The Constitution (Parliamentary Reform) Bill 2003 upholds that commitment and sets out the most comprehensive reform of Victoria’s parliamentary system since it was established in 1856. The Bill makes significant changes to Victoria’s Constitution to deliver a parliamentary system that is fairer, more accountable and more representative of the views of Victorians. |
